In 1927 Dorothy Harrison Eustis, an American breeder in Switzerland, wrote about German Shepherds trained to guide blind veterans. Morris Frank, a blind young man from Nashville, read it and wrote to her. She trained a female Shepherd called Buddy for him, and in 1929 the two of them founded The Seeing Eye, the first guide dog school in the United States.
