The breed standard calls for a dog of no more than six pounds, yet that dog claims the whole house, files noise complaints about every passerby and reserves a special side-eye for anyone who sits in its spot. These are our funniest Chihuahua designs, all original illustrations. The size jokes: "Six Pounds Full Scale," "Size Is Optional," "See Below," which makes you look down to find the dog, and "Small Footprint, Full Claim," a Chihuahua standing in the middle of a floor plan it clearly owns. The ears: "All Ears" and "Too Much Width," where the lettering runs out of room just like the ears do. The attitude: "Side Eye System," "Never Loud" (it is), "Quiet Not Guaranteed," "Small Has Say," "Last Word First," "Give Me Space" and "Insert Some Space," with the dog standing right in the gap. Where does the Chihuahua's name come from?
The breed is named after the Mexican state of Chihuahua, where the little dogs were found and brought to wider attention in the 1800s. The American Kennel Club registered its first Chihuahua in 1904.
