Secret Santa Gifts for Dog Lovers: How to Crack the Clues, Pick the Breed and Stay in Budget

Here Again Labrador washed tee with a Labrador standing between the big weathered orange words Here and Again

You pulled a name out of the hat, and it belongs to someone you know mainly from meetings. The one thing everyone knows about them is the dog. It is on their lock screen, it walks through their video calls, and its hair is on their coat. Good news: that is the best Secret Santa clue there is. A gift about someone's dog feels personal even when you barely know the person.

The catch is doing it without blowing your cover, at the right price, in a size you have to guess. This guide covers all three: how to work out the breed quietly, what actually fits each common budget cap, how to size someone you cannot ask, a few office-safe rules, and small ideas under $20. Then 12 breed tees, each matched to a clue you are likely to have already noticed.

Step 1: Find Out the Breed Without Giving Yourself Away

Asking "what breed is your dog?" two weeks before the exchange is a little obvious. These routes are quieter:

  • Look at what they already share. Desk photos, a phone wallpaper, a mug, a team chat channel for pets, or the dog that wanders into the background of every video call.
  • Ask the dog's name, not the breed. "How is Biscuit doing?" is normal small talk, and the answer usually includes the breed.
  • Use the organizer. Many exchanges collect a short wish list. Suggest adding a "pets?" line for everyone, so nobody is singled out.

If the dog is a mix, go with the breed it looks most like, and only if you are sure. If their dog is not one of the 21 breeds we draw, skip the breed idea and use one of the small ideas further down.

One honest caution: if they lost their dog recently, a breed gift can land hard. Ask quietly around before you buy. When in doubt, pick something else.

Step 2: Match the Gift to the Budget Cap

Secret Santa runs on a cap. Here is how our tees fit the usual ones, honestly:

  • $20 or $25 cap: our tees do not fit. The Soft Tee is $32 and the Washed Tee is $35, and we will not pretend otherwise. Choose from the under-$20 ideas below instead.
  • $35 cap: the Soft Tee ($32) or the Washed Tee ($35) fits. Shipping on one tee is extra, so check the total at checkout.
  • $50 cap: a Washed Tee plus a small extra, like a leash light or a printed photo of their dog.
  • Two people, one gift: if two of you drew dog people in the same exchange, order together. 2 or more tees ship free in the US, and 3 or more get 15% off automatically, no code.

Step 3: Guess the Size Without Asking

  • Watch what they wear. Someone in loose hoodies will like the roomy Washed Tee in their usual size. Someone in fitted shirts may prefer the Soft Tee, which has a regular fit.
  • Know the two cuts. The Washed Tee is 100% cotton, 250 gsm, a relaxed straight unisex cut that runs true to size, S to 5XL. The Soft Tee is lighter at 155 gsm, regular fit, S to 3XL. Each design comes in three colors.
  • Between two sizes, go up. A slightly big relaxed tee still gets worn on weekends; a tight one goes in a drawer.
  • Use the measurements. Our size guide lists real measurements.

Be aware before you buy: every tee is printed to order, so we cannot take returns or exchanges for a wrong size. Damaged or misprinted items are covered by our returns policy.

Office-Safe Rules for a Dog Gift

  • Keep the joke about the dog, never the person. "Your dog runs your schedule" is fine. Anything about their body, age or habits is not.
  • No rude words or innuendo. Every pick below is clean.
  • No dog food or treats unless you know the dog. Some dogs have allergies or vet diets. A toy or a human gift is safer.

Secret Santa Ideas for Dog Lovers Under $20

For a $20 or $25 cap, or as a small add-on:

  • A clip-on LED leash light. Clocks fell back on November 1, so most evening walks happen in the dark until spring.
  • A printed photo of their dog, taken from a photo they already shared, in a small frame.
  • A pet hair lint roller for the office, because dog hair arrives at work every day.
  • A treat pouch for the coworker who is always training.

12 Secret Santa Tees, Matched to the Clue You Spotted

Find the clue you already noticed, check the breed, and you have a gift that says you paid attention. All are on the Washed Tee.

1. The clue: they leave at 5:00 sharp: Here Again

Here Again Labrador washed tee with a Labrador standing between the big weathered orange words Here and Again

A Labrador stands front and center between the big, weathered orange words "HERE" and "AGAIN." If your coworker shuts the laptop at five on the dot because someone at home is waiting, this is that someone. The Labrador was America's most registered breed for 31 years in a row, so there is a good chance the dog in the desk photo is one.

2. The clue: they bring in the coffee or the donuts: Carry Light

Carry Light Golden Retriever washed tee with a Golden Retriever trotting along carrying a sign that reads Carry Light in its mouth

A Golden Retriever trots along holding a sign that reads "CARRY LIGHT" by its straps. Retrievers were bred to carry things gently, and this one carries a bit of cheer. It suits the coworker who shows up with a box of donuts for no reason and makes Monday a little lighter.

3. The clue: their dog crashes every video call: Come Closer

Come Closer Boston Terrier washed tee with a Boston Terrier peeking over an orange sign that says Closer

A Boston Terrier peeks over an orange sign that says "CLOSER," one paw hooked over the edge and big eyes fixed on you. That is exactly how a Boston appears at the bottom of a webcam during a budget review. Bostons are a true American breed, developed in Boston in the late 1800s.

4. The clue: they skip the small talk: No Small Talk

No Small Talk Shih Tzu washed tee with a long-haired Shih Tzu beside speech bubbles full of dots

A long-haired Shih Tzu sits beside the words "NO SMALL TALK" and speech bubbles filled with dots instead of chatter. For the colleague who comes to the meeting, says the useful thing and leaves. Shih Tzus were bred purely as companions in imperial China, so they have never needed to make conversation to get attention.

5. The clue: they are always a minute late: Arrive a Beat Later

Arrive a Beat Later Chihuahua washed tee with a Chihuahua reaching toward the letter R that sits apart from the rest of the words

In "ARRIVE A BEAT LATER" the R sits apart from the other letters, as if it showed up late, and a little Chihuahua reaches toward it with one paw. For the coworker who joins the call at 9:01, every time, with a good excuse. Chihuahua owners will add their own reason: a walk with this tiny dog takes twice as long, because every lamppost needs checking.

6. The clue: their calendar is color-coded: Plans, Revised

Plans Revised Yorkshire Terrier washed tee with a Yorkshire Terrier nosing up to an oversized fountain pen

A little Yorkshire Terrier noses up to an oversized fountain pen beside the words "PLANS, REVISED." The joke is that once a Yorkie wants your attention, whatever you planned gets rewritten around the dog. Yorkies are toy dogs, often under seven pounds, but they run the household schedule.

7. The clue: they are always about to travel: Carry-On Attitude

Carry-On Attitude Dachshund washed tee with a Dachshund in sunglasses and an orange scarf framed by a suitcase handle

A Dachshund struts in sunglasses and an orange scarf, its long body framed by a suitcase handle, under the words "CARRY-ON ATTITUDE." It is a pun on carry-on luggage and on the breed's confident strut. For the colleague with the out-of-office reply always ready and a sitter on speed dial.

8. The clue: they show everyone dog photos: Frenchie in Focus

Frenchie in Focus washed tee with a bold geometric portrait of a French Bulldog with big upright ears in pink and blue

A bold portrait of a French Bulldog, all bat ears and wrinkles, framed by pink bars, a partial circle and blue accents in a dotted screen-print style. For the coworker whose camera roll is 90% dog. The French Bulldog became America's most registered breed in 2022, so there are plenty of these photos going around.

9. The clue: they are the team's cheerleader: Be Someone's Bright Side

Be Someone's Bright Side Boxer washed tee with a proud Boxer standing above a golden sun spelling out the words

A proud Boxer stands above a golden sun whose center spells out "Be Someone's Bright Side." It flips "look on the bright side" into something you do for other people, which is what a Boxer does with its whole wiggling body. For the person who remembers everyone's birthday and sends the kind message after a bad week.

10. The clue: there is always a book on their desk: Read Otherwise

Read Otherwise Beagle washed tee with a sleepy Beagle sprawled across the words Read and Otherwise We Read

A sleepy Beagle sprawls across the words "READ" and "OTHERWISE WE READ," in dark green and orange vintage poster type. The wording is deliberately silly: either way, we read. For the book club member whose Beagle sleeps on their feet through every chapter.

11. The clue: they always hear the news first: News Arrives Second

News Arrives Second German Shepherd washed tee with a German Shepherd bursting through a newspaper headline

A German Shepherd bursts through a newspaper headline reading "NEWS ARRIVES SECOND," leaving a rolled-up paper behind. The dog beats the news to you, and makes some breaking news of its own. For the colleague who knows about the reorg before the email lands.

12. The clue: they have been here longest: Still Here

Still Here English Bulldog washed tee with a stocky English Bulldog beneath arched vintage college-style letters

A stocky English Bulldog stands under the arched words "STILL HERE" in vintage college-sports lettering, paws planted, going nowhere. For the long-timer who has seen three office moves and knows where the good stapler is. Bulldog owners will read it as the dog that sits down mid-walk and stays there.

FAQ

What is a good Secret Santa gift for a dog lover?

Something about their own dog. A tee with their breed, a framed print of a photo they already shared, or a practical walk item like a clip-on leash light. Find the breed quietly first, through desk photos, video calls or the exchange wish list.

Is a t-shirt a good Secret Santa gift if I do not know their size?

It can be, if you watch what they wear and size up when unsure: our Washed Tee is a relaxed unisex cut that runs true to size. Tees are printed to order, so wrong sizes cannot be returned. If that worries you, choose one of the under-$20 ideas.

Do your tees fit a $25 Secret Santa budget?

No. The Soft Tee is $32 and the Washed Tee is $35, so they fit a $35 or $50 cap. For $20 or $25, a leash light, a framed photo of their dog or a pet hair roller is a better fit.

Is there a deal if several of us order together?

Yes. 2 or more tees ship free in the US, and 3 or more tees get 15% off automatically at checkout.
